What a tip is, and what it is not

A tip is a thank you from the audience, paid to you through Stripe, from £3 to £500, and it never buys a song or moves one up the queue.

What a tip is

A tip is a thank you. Someone in your audience pays you a small amount of money through Stripe, straight into your own Stripe account. AnyRequests does not hold your money.

What it is not

A tip never buys a song and never changes the order of the queue. You do not have to play the song of anyone who tips. The audience is told so under the tip button: "Tips are just a thank you. They don't buy a song or move you up the list."

Amounts

Tips run from £3 to £500. You offer four amounts, lowest first. If you change nothing, the four are £3, £5, £10 and £20. The audience can also choose Another amount, within the same limits.

Choosing what your audience sees

  1. Open Setup, then the Tips section.
  2. Under What the audience calls you, type a short name of up to 24 characters. It is used on the tip button, so "Tip Adele" rather than "Tip Adele Adkins Music". Leave it blank and AnyRequests uses your first word.
  3. Under Wording, pick the button words that fit. The choices are "Tip" with your name, "Tip the band", "Support live music" and plain "Tip". Once someone has heard a song they asked for, each one changes to a thank you, such as "Say thanks to" your name.
  4. Under Amounts, in pounds, set the four amounts. Whole pounds only. The lowest you can offer is £3 and the highest is £500, and they must run lowest first. Use the minus and plus buttons to move an amount by £1.
  5. Press Save everything.

You will see: the line "Looks good." under the amounts, and your changes on your page.

Tips only work once Stripe is connected. Until then this section is greyed out, with a Set up tips button. See Setting up Stripe. To choose who pays the fees on a tip, see Who pays the fee.

Whose money and whose tax

You are the seller on every tip. You are responsible for refunds and disputes, and for any tax due on what you receive. AnyRequests does not give tax advice. Only you can give a tip back.
