HelpThe audience's side

Tipping, Apple Pay and Google Pay

The audience taps a tip button, picks an amount, and pays with a wallet button if their phone offers one, or by card. A tip never buys a song.

What the audience does

  1. They tap your tip button. Its wording is yours: Tip and your name, Tip the band, Support live music or Tip. After one of their songs is played, the button says Say thanks to and your name, or Say thanks to the band, Say thanks for the music or Say thanks.
  2. They choose an amount. There are four buttons. Unless you have changed them, they are £3, £5, £10 and £20. Another amount opens a box that takes £3 to £500.
  3. They see the fees, in the way you set them (see below).
  4. They pay with a wallet button, or tap Pay by card.

You will see: the audience page says Thanks for the tip and "You can send another if you like". You see the tip come in on your live screen.

Under every tip card is the same line: Tips are just a thank you. They don't buy a song or move you up the list. Under the button it says the tip goes straight to you, using your name.

Apple Pay and Google Pay

The wallet buttons come from Stripe. Stripe checks what the phone and the browser can offer, and shows only those buttons. If a phone offers no wallet, the Pay by card button is all that shows, and it expands in place with the card form and a Pay button with the total on it.

So a missing wallet button does not mean something is broken. Common reasons:

  • The phone or browser does not support a wallet, or none is set up on it.
  • The page was opened inside another app's built-in browser. See A link opened inside another app.

If it is still missing, see Wallet buttons missing.

If a payment fails, the audience sees That payment did not go through. Nothing has been taken. A declined card says Your card was declined. Nothing has been taken.

The fees

You choose who covers the fee, on your Profile, in the Tips section.

Your settingWhat the audience sees
You cover the feeOne amount. They pay exactly the amount they pick.
The audience covers the feeEach amount has the fee beside it, such as "+50p". The payment screen shows the total, as Pay and the figure.
The audience decidesA question: Who covers the fee? Two buttons: "They get the full" amount, or "They get" the smaller amount. The wallet buttons wait until they choose.

When the tip button shows

It shows when your Stripe account can take payments and tips are on. It shows under the form, on the Request sent screen, and on the paused, no-gig and wrap screens. After a request of theirs is played, the page offers it once. It is not shown to a phone you have blocked.

A tip never buys a song, moves a request up, or means you must play anything. See What a tip is and is not.
