HelpThe audience's side

A link opened inside another app

If the audience open your link from inside Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok or LinkedIn, the page shows a notice because some things may not be remembered.

What the audience sees

A small notice appears on the request page:

  • You're in an app's built-in browser, so some things may not be remembered.
  • For the best experience, use the menu to open this page in your browser.

It has a cross (Dismiss). Tap it and the notice goes. The page remembers that they closed it, so it does not come back, unless the phone has lost its stored data.

When it appears

The page looks for the built-in browsers of five apps: Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok and LinkedIn. The notice only appears in those. Ordinary browsers such as Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Samsung Internet do not show it.

This happens when someone taps a link to your page from inside one of those apps, for example in a post, a story or a message. A QR code scanned with a phone's camera opens in the phone's own browser, which the operating system chooses.

Why it matters

The request page keeps a small random code on the phone. That code is what lets the page say "already requested, tap to add your vote" and what stops one phone voting twice. Inside some built-in browsers that code can be wiped between two songs. So the audience may lose their place part way through, and the page may forget a song they already asked for.

The wallet buttons (Apple Pay, Google Pay) can also be missing in these browsers. See Tipping, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

What it does not do

The page does not try to force another browser to open. Every trick for that breaks the link for some phones, so AnyRequests leaves it to the person. The words name no brand, because the menu to use is different in every app.

What you can do

  • Put your QR code on tables and posters. A camera scan opens the phone's own browser, not an app's.
  • When you share your link in a post or a story, say that it works best in the phone's own browser.
  • Do not worry if a notice is showing. Requests still go through.
