Importing a list and checking it

Bring in a list from a file, a photo or pasted text, check what was found, and nothing is added until you say so.

Import a file or a photo

  1. Open Songs in the bottom bar.
  2. Under Add songs, tap Import.
  3. Under From a file, tap Choose a file. On a phone you can also tap the box and take a photo of your list.
  4. Wait while the file is read. The card tells you how many songs it found and whether AI was needed.
  5. Go through the review, one step at a time. Use Next and Back.
  6. At the end, read the summary under Pressing the button will: and tap Add the ticked songs.

You will see: a Done. message saying how many songs were added, and how many were already on your list.

Only one file is read at a time. If you choose several, only the first is used.

Paste a list instead

In the box Paste or type it, paste your list and tap Read this list. Any shape works: numbered, dashes, "by", or one song a line.

What each kind of file does

FileWhere it is readSize limit
CSV or text fileOn your device25MB
Excel (.xlsx) or Word (.docx)On your device8MB
PDF with typed textOn your device25MB, up to 30 pages
PDF that is a scanSent to AI12MB, up to 10 pages
PhotoSent to AI25MB to open
Pasted textSent to AIabout 108,000 characters

A spreadsheet or CSV needs a first row with columns called something like Title or Song, and Artist. A column called Link, URL or Chart is kept as the chart link for each song. Only the first sheet of an Excel file is read.

Older .xls, .doc and Apple .pages files cannot be read. Save them as .xlsx, .docx or CSV first.

What AI reads

Most files are read on your device, so nothing is sent anywhere. AI reads photos, PDFs that are scans, and pasted text. A text file, Word document or PDF whose lines cannot be split into songs is also handed to AI, and the card says so. The photo or scan is not kept. What is saved is the list you confirm.

Each AI read uses one credit. You can see how many you have on the card. The limits are 12 an hour, 40 a day and 120 in 30 days.

The review

Every song is checked against the catalogue. They are sorted into steps:

  • Found in the catalogue: ticked already. Untick any you do not play.
  • More than one match. Pick which.: choose the right one, or type it in.
  • No match. Check these.: search, type it as it should read, or leave it out. If you keep it, it goes in as written.
  • Already on your list, under another name: left out unless you tick it.
  • Which chart should open?: for songs you have, where your file brought more than one chart.

Nothing is added until the last button. Discard this import throws it all away. Your choices are remembered, so importing the same file again starts where you left off.
