Duplicates and tidied songs

How AnyRequests warns you about repeats, how to merge two copies of one song, and what the Tidied label means.

Warnings as you add

  • Add manually. If what you type looks like a song you already have, you see This looks like it's already there, did you mean followed by the song. You can still tap Add mine anyway.
  • Import. Songs in your file that you already have are left out. If you have the song under a different spelling of the artist, it goes into a step called Already on your list, under another name. Those rows start unticked. Tick one only if it really is a different song with the same title.
  • Search. A song already on your list shows a tick. Tapping it again takes it off, so mind your taps.

Merge songs that are already on your list

If two copies are already there, a section called Songs that look like duplicates appears on My songs. It only shows when there is something in it, and it starts closed. Inside, each pair shows the title, the two artist spellings, and what is attached to each, such as in 2 set lists, requested 3 times or has a chart link. A set list here means a songbook.

  1. Open Songs, then My songs.
  2. Open Songs that look like duplicates.
  3. Under the spelling you want, tap Keep this one.
  4. Confirm when asked.

You will see: Merged. and a line saying how many set lists moved across and how many requests were kept.

Keeping one moves its set lists and its request history across, and takes the chart link if the one you keep has none. If they are really two different songs, leave them alone.

The Tidied label

Sometimes a song shows a small Tidied mark. It means AnyRequests changed what you typed. Tap it to see You typed followed by your original, and the reason:

  • The artist field held a category rather than a name, so the act was taken from the title.
  • Nobody knows who wrote the song, so it is filed as traditional rather than as a missing year.

To keep your own wording, tap Use what I typed.

You will see: Put back as you typed it.
