Choosing a venue and the coloured dot

Pick or type your venue on the Go Live form; the coloured dot beside it says whether your phone places you at that venue, and it never stops you going live.

Choose your venue

  1. Open the Go Live form and look at Venue.
  2. If venues appear under Near you, tap yours. Show more with the small + and a number.
  3. If it is not there, type the name in the box, for example The Red Lion, Bakewell. Tap a match from the list below, or keep typing for a new venue.
  4. If you typed a name that matched nothing, you can add Town or city. It is optional, and it helps other acts find the same room.

You will see: the venue name in the box, and a coloured dot with a few words beside it.

If a close name already exists, you are asked Is this followed by the venue name. Tap Yes, that one or No, mine is different. Nothing is merged without your answer.

If the phone filled in the venue, it asks Playing at and the name. Tap Yes, that is the one or Somewhere else.

A venue name needs at least two characters.

When location is used

Your phone is asked for its location once, when you open Go Live, to put nearby venues at the top. It is not tracked during the gig. If the reading is a good one and the venue is on the shared list, we keep it with that venue to place it correctly (see the privacy policy). If location is off, you see Location is off, so type the venue name.

To ask the phone again, for example after walking in from the car park, tap Check again beside Venue. The words Checking... and Getting a better fix... show it is working, then settled with a tick when it has stopped. A short line tells you whether anything changed.

The coloured dot

Tap the dot to see what each colour means.

DotWords beside itMeaning
GreenYou're hereYour phone places you close enough to be sure you are at this venue.
BlueNearbyYour phone cannot place you tightly enough to confirm it, and other places are close by. Nothing has gone wrong.
AmberNo locationLocation is off, or the phone has not managed a good enough reading yet.
RedSaved elsewhereThe venue is saved a long way from you. If you are at it, the venue is in the wrong place and you can say so.

Beside the words you may see how far away the phone thinks the venue is, give or take a distance.

The dot only affects what we can say about where a venue is. It never stops you going live. Only green helps confirm where the venue is.

On red, tap Fix the location. Otherwise Not right? is beside the dot.

If it only saves as your own name

If the phone has no good position, a typed venue is saved as your own name for the place. Nobody else can pick it. Tap Check again when you have a signal and it is added for everyone.
