Which phones and browsers work

AnyRequests needs a fairly recent browser. The oldest versions that work are iOS and iPadOS 15.4 and Chrome 105, and a few looks are lost on the oldest.

AnyRequests runs in the browser. These are the oldest versions the app can run on, worked out from the browser features it relies on. They apply to your phone or tablet and to the phones in your audience.

On an iPhone or iPad, every browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge) uses the same engine from the operating system. So what counts is the iOS or iPadOS version, not which browser you open.

For Android, go by the browser version, not the Android version. Chrome updates separately from Android.

What "some looks lost" means

On the oldest versions, taking requests, running a gig and getting paid all still work. What can go missing is appearance:

  • some colour tints are lost, though the shapes stay
  • the shading over a header photo may not appear, which can make a name harder to read over a bright photo
  • on a tablet, the queue cards use the phone layout, so Played and Skip are smaller than intended
  • the dashboard shows one column instead of two or three
  • before 16.4, the app may briefly show square corners and tight spacing when it first opens, until its styles finish loading

What notifications need

Notifications outside the app need a device that supports web push. On an iPhone or iPad that means iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later, with AnyRequests added to the home screen first. See put AnyRequests on your phone.

If a device cannot show notifications, Settings says so. While AnyRequests is open you still get everything: the screen edge flashes, a message appears, the Go Live button counts up and the request lands in the live list.

Other browsers

For computer browsers and browsers not in the table, we do not have a tested list. The code relies on newer browser features, such as :has() (a way of styling a block by what is inside it), container queries (layout that follows the size of its box) and 100dvh (a screen-height unit). A browser that has them should work.

Connection

Requests need a signal. AnyRequests opens without one to the last queue it saw, but sending and receiving requests needs a connection.
